Jeannette Groenewold

November 2, 1925 — July 26, 2020

Jeannette Groenewold was born Jeannette Klensch, in New York City on November 2, 1925, only daughter to Arthur and Anna Klensch.  Jeannette was called home by the Lord on July 26, 2020, after suffering a major stroke on July 18, 2020.  She was the beloved wife to Philip Groenewold for 50 years until his death in 2001.  Known as Jeanne to her friends, she spent her pre-retirement years in Queens, New York, living in Forest Hills and Middle Village.  Lifelong Catholics, she and her husband were very active in establishing the parish of Our Lady of Hope.  They participated in the annual St. Patrick's Dance, the annual church bazaar, and various activities, all for the construction of a church, which was completed in 1986.  Her children went to Our Lady of Hope school, as well.  Jeanne and Philip moved to Rio Rancho in 1986, after Philip retired.  They were members of the Country Club, and were frequent visitors to the pool and dining room.  They enjoyed traveling with Sun Tours, seeing the country.  She especially enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Alaska.  After her daughter moved to Florida, she made quite a few trips to Walt Disney World, which she enjoyed.  Always active in the community, she was a member of the volunteers for Lovelace Hospital, the Rosary Makers, Eucharistic Ministers, and counters for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  She entered the Rio Grande Community in 2016, after suffering a stroke in the previous year.  She made many friendships while there, and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her son, Roy, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Susan of Orlando, Florida, and two grandsons, Douglas and Christopher of Orlando, Florida.

Mass will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020, 10:30 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124.
