Jerry Wayne Shaw

September 10, 1933 — January 8, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Wayne Shaw. He was called home to his eternal resting place on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was born September 10, 1933, in Addington, Oklahoma, to Otis and Winnie Mae (Sue) Shaw. Jerry’s parents moved around quite often following road construction and other job opportunities.  In 1935, at the age of two, his family moved to a cabin on the river in Ruidoso, New Mexico. They also lived in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, where his family ran a gas station with some cabins on Route 66.  One of Jerry’s first “jobs” was that of watching his younger sister Patty while their parents worked. Looking after Patty was something he continued to do until his death, even if from a distance. Jerry graduated from Roswell High in 1952, and then attended college at ENMU in Portales, NM. From there, he joined the Navy and served for 10 years. After that Jerry worked for Civil Service at White Sands Missile Range until he retired in 1992. During his years in Socorro, New Mexico, Jerry met and married Lillie Cowin Shaw in June of 1970.  They spent many wonderful years together in their home in Escondida, New Mexico. Jerry often kidded that Lillie straightened him out. Jerry was an extremely kind and generous man. He was a special brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His family would remember and laugh at how Jerry would get into trouble during his earlier years but always managed to get himself out of it. Jerry would often tell stories of his escapades in his younger days, especially in the Navy. These would usually include frequenting local taverns, negative mischief, and time in the Brig.  Jerry, however, was such a valuable asset to the Navy, his time in the Brig was cut short. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Sue Shaw; Wife Lillie Shaw; Brother JC Shaw; Brothers-in-law Bob Richardson, Andy Crespin, Roy Foster, and Tom Crespin; Sisters-in-law Florence Foster and Pauline Crespin; Grandson Kevin Head; Great Nephew Joshua Richardson; Nephew Brian Richardson; Niece Lisa Richardson. Jerry is survived by his daughter Sandra (Tony) Gonzales of Socorro, NM; Sister Patricia Shaw Richardson of Kerrville, Texas; Brother Otis “Mike” (Betsy) Shaw of Albuquerque, NM. Beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Emily), Vince (Genene) and Brandi Gonzales; Great-grandchildren: Anthony (Serena) Maloney, Christian Gonzales, Annika Chavez, Teresita Gonzales; Courtney (Rachad) Pearson, Lachlan and Aidan Carmichael, Braydon Head and Cody Miller. One Great-great-grandson Jayden Pearson. Numerous Nephews, Nieces, Great nephews, and Great-nieces. A rosary will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, New Mexico at 9:30am.  Memorial service will immediately follow at  9:30 am.  Interment to proceed at the La Sagrada Familia Cemetery in Lemitar, NM.
