Jessie Stephens-Rael

June 6, 1990 — July 11, 2021

A bright light has been extinguished. . .

Our beloved Jessie lost her courageous battle with cancer at the age of 31, on July 11, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her rock and devoted husband Andrew Rael; father George Stephens, mother Jean Tamura, step-father Henry Tamura, sister Casey Stephens and her partner David Clarkson, uncle/aunt Colt & Debbie Harrelson, aunt Jan Barnes, father-in-law Dan VanCourt, sisters-in-law Hannah & Amanda VanCourt and her beloved cat Walter.  So many more loving family members and friends are also mourning her passing.

Jessie was a life-long resident of Albuquerque – a graduate of La Cueva High School & the University of New Mexico.  If you met her, you were forever touched by her. She lit up the room with her smile and welcoming nature.  Few people have influenced so many.  At their recent wedding, Jessie & Andrew expressed unmistakable love of the rarest kind for each other; complementary souls that together, made one another better.  Jessie had so much love and appreciation for all her people – that was the driving force in her life!

We are forever grateful for Jessie’s employer & co-workers at the Verdes Foundation and the compassionate, loving doctors, nurses & staff at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Memorial services will be posted on this website at a later date.
