Lois Lorraine Williams

April 23, 1927 — July 10, 2021

Lois Lorraine Williams spent 70 happy years in her Albuquerque home before dying there peacefully, albeit unpredictably. She was born April 23, 1927 in the farming community of Greenville, Illinois. Lois was preceded in death by her parents J. Horace and Nellie M. Ward as well as her brother Neil when he was a child. She relocated to Boulder City, Nevada, during the construction of Hoover Dam, in her childhood. Lois received her degree from the Colorado State College of Education which later became UNC. She majored in Education. Even though she enjoyed teaching, after moving to Albuquerque in 1950 with husband Jack, Lois devoted most of her favorite years to caring for her children, Mark and Jill. Later in life, she worked at the District Court office.

Lois was a lifelong member and active participant of Tri Sigma sorority’s social events. She had been awarded the Golden Violet for years and service.  An enthusiast of music and singing, Lois was a vocalist with the “Harmonizers” music ensemble for many years. She enjoyed traveling with the group to visit care facilities for seniors, where she was able to inspire smiles and render sweet memories with happy melodies. She played " How Great thou Art " on the house organ and happily pored over magazines, maps, and photos for hours. She adored hearing about other’s adventures, and thoroughly enjoyed several ocean cruises with her BFF Barbara and one to Hawaii with Jill. She loved gardening, but hated thunderstorms.

“Nana” was a loving mother and grandmother who only had positive words to share about anyone. She listened intently and cared deeply. She worried about everyone else’s concerns, but she rarely ever complained of any strife or distress of her own. She was fiercely independent but deeply grateful for any assistance later in life. More than anything, she loved to hear from and see her children and grandchildren. The loss of this great woman will be beyond measure. She is survived by son Mark Williams (Michaeline Williams) and daughter Jill Scheehl (Michael Scheehl) as well as Grandkids Michelle Glasgow (Daniel Glasgow), Jeremy Scheehl (Melinda Scheehl), Lindsey Gray (Blake Gray), Katelyn Yaemans (Ben Yeamans), and  Dr. S. Garrett Williams ( Sara Romine) with Great Grandkids Kendall Glasgow, Miranda Glasgow, Rehmi Scheehl, Holden Grey and Autumn Grey. Extended family and neighbors will miss her immensely.   Above all, Nana was consistently compassionate and impeccably reliable. She left the world a better place than she found it. She supported the children’s home El Ranchito de los Ninos, and her family would appreciate any contributions made in her honor at https://elranchitonm.org
