Marilyn Hannahs

August 16, 1948 — May 22, 2020

Marilyn B. Hannahs, age 71, passed away from the ravages of cancer on Friday, May 22 at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital after a five year fight for life. She was born August 16, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Edward and Teresa Bochenek.

 

Marilyn received her Catholic education in Dayton and graduated with honors from Bellevue College in Washington State. She and John both worked for Digital Equipment Corporation where she specialized in software and John in sales. Marilyn was also a partner in the Swan computer store near Seattle. Marilyn and John lived in Houston, Seattle, New Hampshire, Whidbey Island, and finally Corrales, NM where they retired for the last 20+ years. Marilyn was a member of Soroptimist and was a member of the Republican Party. Besides her many social and philanthropic pursuits, Marilyn was devoutly religious and enjoyed traveling the world with John and her family.

 

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, John R. Hannahs who she married in Houston, TX on March 13, 1978. Marilyn is also survived by four children and nine grandchildren. These include her daughter, Melissa David and her husband, John of Albuquerque, New Mexico and their three boys Jack, Tim, and Stevie, her daughter Gail Grein and her husband, Stephen of Plano, Texas and their three children, Laurel and twins Vaughn and Caroline, and her daughter Heather Otis and her husband, James of Des Moines, Iowa and their three children, Madison, Abigail, and Sam. Marilyn also has two surviving siblings and many nieces and nephews, including her sister Dolores Christiensen, her brother Eddie Bochenek, and her sister Sheila Hill, who recently preceded her in passing. Marilyn was also blessed with six close friends from high school known as The Girls, with whom she had a special bond for over fifty years. She will be sorely missed by all.

 

Funeral services will be hosted by Daniel's Family Funeral Services at their Sara Chapel located at 4310 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho on Thursday, June 4th, at 11:00 a.m. Due to State health orders, at this moment the chapel is restricted to 40 individuals. Folks from distant places should consider the Covid-19 situation and those who can not attend should be able to witness the service online once it’s been uploaded here.

 

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rio Rancho Rotary Foundation, Inc, a 501(c)3 organization.
