Patsy Juanice Douglas

August 4, 1928 — February 15, 2021

Patsy Juanice (Chancellor) Douglas was born on August 4, 1928 in Lubbock, TX and died on February 15, 2021 in Tokay, NM. She was born to Thomas Russell and Claudie Lee Blake Chancellor, the baby sister, loved dearly by parents and two older brothers.  During her childhood, the family moved often as her father struggled to find employment.  They lived in many southwestern US towns including Lubbock, TX, Hots Springs NM, San Antonio, NM..  She graduated from Eunice High School in 1947. She met Don Douglas, fell in love and married in 1948.  They spent much of their life together living in the Denver, Colorado area where Don worked for Martin Marietta/Lockhead and she was a realtor.  They retired and moved back to Socorro in the 80’s, where she managed the hospital gift shop, was the treasurer for the Mountain Baptist Association and volunteered at Good Sams.  Don died suddenly of a heart attack and she cared for her mother until her death.  She loved to knit and must have made thousands of dish cloths and a hundred afghans that continue to keep people warm on cold nights. She was a wonderful cook making tamales and lovely sweets for church fundraisers and to share during the Holidays.  She loved playing games with family members and was an excellent 42 (domino) player.  In more recent years, her nieces and nephews made yearly visits to see her and help with chores.  A highlight of 2020 was attending the Chancellor family reunion in Three Forks Montana.  Staying in regular touch with so many friends and family fulfilled her life. She recently decided to move to Texas and live near family in an assisted living center.  Her nephew James Westbrook took charge of moving her from Socorro to Texas.  As the time neared, she grew wary about having to leave her home, friends and church community in Socorro.  Her flight was canceled the day before she died due to weather..  In the end, she  had to make only one last move -- that BIG move -- that we all must make. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, her brothers & their wives, Bernard/ Deenie, Duane/Maxine, brother-in-law Manny Marquez, nephews Chris and Rick Marquez, Marvin and Clifford McSmith, cousin and Barbara (Zimmerman) Gibson, close friend, Nadine Snyder. She is survived by in-laws Enid Westbrook of Katy TX, Virginia Marquez of Jourdanton TX, Betsie Douglas, Bruce Douglas, Katy Sandmeier,  Becky Myron, James and Craig Westbrook, niece Deenie Lynn Duncan of Burleson, Texas, George Chancellor of Three Forks MT, Beverly McClellan Emmett ID, Debbie Tidwell  Las Vegas NV,  Russell Chancellor of Logan UT, friend Jane and numerous cousins, great and great-great nieces and nephews. We appreciate Ginese Vigil, Nancy Bell, Travis and Carlina Harris whom she loved like her own. Allen and Faith Lewis for numerous meals. Special thanks to Alan and Nancy Bell and Dewey & Linda Brown for their graciousness and assistance in her final hours.  We offer our deepest gratitude to them and many, many others for invaluable support over the years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Socorro. 203 Spring Street, Socorro New Mexico. Pastor Phillip Smith will be officiating.
