Ray Lamont

April 22, 1946 — May 26, 2018

Raymond Lamont died May 26, 2018 following multiple cancer challenges.  Ray is survived by his cherished wife Sarah.  “She shared with me life’s joy and challenges, and was always my shining love and best friend."  He is survived by Charlotte, his beloved sister, who has provided love, support and comfort.  Ray loved and was grateful to his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary, and Kirk.  Ray and Bob fenced together in college, and Bob introduced Ray to his little sister Sarah.  The rest, they say, is history.  Ray was thankful for the many family, friends and excellent career and medical professionals who taught, worked with, cared for and supported him.

Ray grew up an Air Force “brat” and loved aviation.  He became a glider pilot while in high school.  Later, it was Ray’s honor to serve our country as an Air Force pilot.  Once he moved to Albuquerque, he became a hot air balloon pilot.

Ray also made contributions in healthcare, research and technology development, and program management.  He was Head of Research, Computing and Statistics at Texas Tech University in Lubbock and Director of Information Systems at Texas Tech Regional Health Center in El Paso.  He was also Chief Information Officer at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans.

Ray’s project management skills led to work at Sandia National Labs and program management at other national labs across the United States.  He later led software implementation programs in numerous cities across the United States, as well as Toronto, Canada and Bangkok, Thailand.

It was Ray’s honor and privilege to help others through mentoring and volunteer work.  He was an elder in his church.  He found joy in facilitating Alpha outreach programs and leading cancer support groups.

Ballooning, running, fencing and other sports gave Ray much pleasure.  Walking in nature showed him God’s gifts of beauty and peace.  Sharing and laughing with his family and friends lifted him up.  And doing everything with his best, Sarah, was his greatest joy.

Thanking God in all circumstances for His grace and love, Ray prayed for all to share in His many blessings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to cancer research and patient/caregiver support at UNM Hospital and Cancer Center or to your favorite charity.
