Sally Ann Frew

Sally Ann Frew, 84, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away January 16, 2020, at home surrounded by family.  She was born on August 12, 1935, in Taos, NM, to James and Sarah Gililland as the 4th of 7 children. 

A New Mexico native, Sally and her family lived in many towns around the state, including Tres Piedras, Velarde, Santa Fe, Chaco Canyon, Farmington, Carlsbad, Roswell and Tucumcari, as well as Monahans, TX.  She graduated high school from Tucumcari High School and then attended New Mexico Highlands University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education. 

After college, she taught at Cimarron High School and started a family in Springer, NM.  She lived in Las Vegas, NM for a time before eventually settling in Albuquerque, where she lived since 1962.    She taught school at Albuquerque High School and then worked as an insurance adjuster at Keenan & Associates.  In 1979, she went to work at Sandia National Laboratories and retired from there in 2000. 

Sally was an avid bridge player, belonging to multiple bridge groups throughout the city.  She also enjoyed bowling and volunteered with AARP to prepare tax returns for low-income individuals for many years. 

She is survived by her 4 children, Dean (Shelley) Frew of McKinney, TX, Dirk Frew of Tijeras, NM, Dee (Ted) Castro of Placentia, CA, and Danny (Michelle) Frew of Albuquerque, NM; 18 grandchildren, Cody Frew, Reece Frew, Casey Frew, Brittany Frew, Blythe (Ben) Tipton, Connor Frew, Brennan Frew, Brock (Maggie) Frew, Hayden Castro, Blaise (Daniel) Griesel, Bethany Frew, Bevin Frew, Kayle Frew, Kendra Frew and Kate Frew; Sisters Mary Leon and Joyce (Froilan) de Jesus, and brother Lloyd (Dorothy) Gililland as well as many nieces and nephews. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel, at 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM  87109, at 2:00 pm.   The family will greet guests at a reception following the service.  A private burial will take place at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Hospital in Sally's name.
