Sharon Brooks Engel

Sharon Brooks Engel, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Sharon was born in 1944 in Baltimore, MD to Hans and Dolores Engel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Weissman, who passed away in 2014 and by her son, Eerin Atkinson, who passed away in 2009.

Sharon graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and worked as a Student Loan Officer at First Security Bank and later as a pet sitter for Neon Dream Pet Sitting.

Sharon was a well-known and well-loved creative spirit known for her painting, cross-stitching, greeting card crafting and love of antiques. She applied these talents in creating Christmas trees and wreaths which were used to raise funds for Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. She was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Sharon and her husband Bill were also active members of the Route 66 Rodders Car Club.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Edith “Edye” Cowan of DeKalb, IL and her son Eric Atkinson, who resides in Tularosa, NM and her grandchildren Timothy Atkinson (Denver, CO), LeeAnn Atkinson (Denver, CO), Wesley Atkinson (Albuquerque, NM), Shannon Cowan (Flagstaff, AZ), Amber Atkinson (Albuquerque, NM), Azure Atkinson (Albuquerque, NM), her daughter-in-law Lauren Atkinson, her sister Pamela Engel and brother-in-law Tom Miller (Albuquerque, NM).

The family is asking that anyone wishing to honor her memory make a contribution in her name to Animal Humane New Mexico at animalhumanenm.org

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 10:30 AM, Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, NM.
