Teofilo Chavez

His zest for life and passion for athletics was shared with everyone he encountered. He was an avid runner as well as a Senior Olympics standout in cornhole, ping pong and horseshoes. His outgoing nature made him a close friend to many in the community. His quick wit and humor left an impression on anyone he encountered. 

 

Teofilo married Crestina Sedillo (Chavez) in 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and together they raised children Renee, Christopher and Mark. He was a grandfather and father figure to many and known for sharing entertaining stories and heartfelt advice. 

 

Teofilo served in the US Navy and National Guard. He retired from the US Postal Service after 25 years and coached youth track and field for many years.

 

He was a member of Knights of Columbus at Queen of Heaven Parish and volunteered as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. His life-long love of learning led him to researching his family’s genealogy and Catholic theology. 

 

Strong until the very end, Teofilo beat cancer for over 19 years. His last week with us, he pitched a full game of softball and played a competitive game of cornhole. He will be greatly missed.

 

A Visitation will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven, 5311 Phoenix Ave NE, Albuquerque. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mount Calvary, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be: Gilbert Chavez, Edward Chavez, Abaran Chavez, Mark Chavez, Christopher Chavez, and Matthew Chavez.
