March 23, 1931 — January 7, 2021

Victor James Fattor, age 89, passed away January 7, 2021, after battling severe arthritis and scoliosis for many years. Vic was born and raised in Gallup, New Mexico, on March 23, 1931.  In l951, he left Gallup and joined the US Navy. He served as a radio man on submarines in the Korean War. After being discharged, Vic returned to Albuquerque and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of New Mexico in 1960. In September, 1960, he married Mary Arnot, and they celebrated their 60th year of marriage this past year. He worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Albuquerque, and Roswell, New Mexico, until he and Mary moved to San Bernardino, California, in 1961. There he worked for the Department of Public Works Division of Highways. In 1964, Vic and Mary returned to Albuquerque where Vic worked with the Army Corps of Engineering and then the Bureau of Indian Affairs until he retired in 1985. He enjoyed being around his family and many relatives. He was very active in sports during high school and played golf up until his back gave out.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Emma Fattor, his sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Arthur Matte. He is survived by his wife Mary, three children, Steven (Teri); Todd (Danielle); and Marla; his grandchildren: Brian, Kristin (Steven), Sean, Caitlin, Lindsay and Joe; and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Rose, and many nieces and nephews from the Matte, Arnot, Merkel and McIntyre families. He was very proud of his children, loved being around his grandchildren, and extremely happy to be a great-grandfather.

Because of Covid-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held in Albuquerque at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Vic’s name to the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, P.O. Box 270, Abiquiu, NM 87510-0270; Good Shepherd Center, 218 Iron St. SW, Albuquerque, NM, 87102, or a charitable organization of your choice. Please visit the Daniels Family website to leave your condolences and/or fondest memories for Victor.
