Bevin Taylor Stillwell

April 5, 1932 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 85)
Bevin Taylor Stillwell, known to friends and family as, “Bev”, passed away Sunday morning, October 1, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 85. Bev was a dignified and honorable man. More than that, Bev was a kind and extremely generous gentleman. Originally from the Bardstown, Kentucky area, Bev spent his youth with his parents Maude Estelle Stillwell (maiden Millen) and Benjamin Frank Stillwell, and twin brother Benjamin Roger Stillwell. His young life was spent with his family in the hospitality business where they once owned and operated the Old Talbot Tavern in Bardstown. Bev graduated from Bardstown High School in 1950, and attended Centre College. In his late 40’s Bev moved to Albuquerque for the “waters” and to be with his brother Ben. After the passing of his sister-in-law and brother, Bev chose to take on the amazing challenge of raising his brother’s three children in 1982. In 1989, Bev moved to the Gold Coast of Chicago, IL where he excelled as a haberdasher with Lord & Taylor at WaterTower Place. For 20 years, Bev frequently and consistently received awards for best customer service and highest sales at Lord & Taylor. He retired in 2007. Bev remained in Chicago till 2015, when he moved to Albuquerque to receive attentive healthcare and to be closer to his nephew Lance, whom he raised since the boy was age 9. Bev lived a challenging life rich with dear friends and small adventures. A voracious reader, Bev often said his books were his best friends. By way of his interests and reading, Bev had phenomenal knowledge and understanding of history, WWII history, and most especially the US Civil War. Bev was known for his good humor and Southern charm. Under his occasional cynical shell, he was at heart a sentimentalist. In his life, Bev was honored as a Captain of the Bell of Louisville and a Kentucky Colonel. Bev had an endless love for all animals, particularly his dearest pets over the many years, to include three dachshunds and four cats. Bev is survived by his nephew Lance Stillwell and his niece Kimberly Bergen, and her children Nikole, Kristian, and Kerstin. Bev will be interred along the side his beloved family in Lebanon, KY, in the Ryder Cemetery.
