Obituary

Leon C. “Skip” Fay, age 78, passed away on April 6, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on December 9, 1947, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Leon C. Fay II and Lois R. Fay.

Skip was raised in Massachusetts and attended Proctor Academy in Andover before continuing his education at Monmouth College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to build a long and successful career as a contractor, dedicating more than 50 years to his craft. Known for his strong work ethic and skillful hands, Skip took great pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.

On October 17, 1993, Skip married the love of his life, Brenda Basgal, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Together, they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and companionship.

Skip found joy in life’s simple pleasures and hobbies. He was an avid golfer and had a passion for Lionel trains, remote control airplanes, and woodworking. Whether on the golf course, in his workshop, or enjoying time with his trains, he embraced each moment with enthusiasm and care.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon C. Fay II; his mother, Lois R. Fay; and his brother, Doug Fay.

Skip is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Fay Basgal of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; his sister, Jenny Babb Fay of Oregon; his sons, Lonny Fay (Nicole) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Jon Paul “Jeep” Fay of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; his stepson, Brandon Thornton of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and his daughter, Misty Soderquist (Sean) of Montana. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his two beloved pets, Fay and Skipper.
